Ask me to style up my hair. I was totally an amateur a year ago.
Ever since I start working in my current job, I had to get in contact with all these styling equipment. I am just not good with my hands. However, after conquering my fear of burning my hands. I now can confidently style my hair without any hassle.
Here some of my little tips during my learning journey.
Firstly, using the right hair styling equipment is critical for you to achieve the hair style you desire. It protects your hair from damage.
There is a total of three kinds of material that is often use in hair equipment; Ceramic, Tourmaline, and Titanium.
Ceramic produce negative ions when heated. It helps to seal the hair cuticle, cut down on frizz and flyaways giving you a silky smooth hair. Ceramic plated or barrel glides through the hair without pulling it, thus, reducing hair breakage and damage.
Tourmaline is a crystalline boron mineral with elements such as aluminum, iron, magnesium, sodium, lithium, or potassium. The negative ions produce through Tourmaline help to lock in hair moisture and natural oil, protecting your hair from damage. When heated, Tourmaline generates heat to removes static and give you a smoother and silkier hair with less tension.
Titanium is known as the best conductor for negative ions and neutralizes static. It transforms positive ions into negative and using infrared heat. It helps to enhance your hair hydration and natural shine, reducing frizz and improve your hair texture.
Being in the metal family, Titanium has one of the fastest heating material among the three which is useful for quick styling.
With this knowledge, choose the best hair equipment that suits your hair type.
Personally, I am using Titanium plate for my hair straightener. With its fast heating function, I can iron out my frizz within less than 10 minutes. It also gives my hair a lasting soft and silky look.
As for Hair Curler, I am sticking with a ceramic barrel.
Secondly, to familiarize yourself with the usage of hair equipment. There no other shortcut, other than practice. Practice makes perfect. This journey of practice can be rocky and disheartening, but never give up.
Advice: Never do it during your preparation before heading out. You would tend to get frustrated with your hair and the equipment if you did not manage to achieve what you want.
Tip 1: Brush out all your detangle before you start working on your hair.
Tip 2: Always start by parting your hair into three sections: crown, middle, and bottom using crocodile clips.
Tip 3: Start by practicing and working on small sections of your hair to get used to the feel, before moving to the rest of the hair
Tip 4: Give yourself a thumb length away from when using the curling iron or curling wand to prevent scaring yourself.
Tip 5: Hold your hair for a minimal of 8 to 10 seconds depending on your hair texture before letting go the hair. For resistant hair, you may hold up to 12 seconds.
Tip 6: Hold on to the curls before letting them down to maintain the bounce and shape.
Never rush yourself when you are practicing, the more you work on it, you will soon get the hang of it.
Currently, I am learning on how to enhance further the curls which I styled.
