Day 2 official marked the start of the whole Alshaya Food Tour which we will be taste testing 4 different American-based restaurants. Starting with IHOP, PF Chang, Shake Shack and lastly, Texas Road House. This was also marked the start of my work as we are required to hand in our food review about the restaurants on the same night. Our reviews will act as one of their consideration in bringing the 4 restaurants into Asia.
After a great night sleep in the Sheraton Sweet SleeperTM Bed, I am all fresh and ready for the challenge.
OOTD: Top & Skirt from Lady & Toki (Bangkok), Straw Hat from Bangkok, Longchamp Sling bag
“You have been selected for The Alshaya Food Tour in Dubai !” When I saw the email, I could not believe my eyes. I had been blogging for the past 2 years and this was the biggest recognition I have ever gotten. After knowing who were the other 4 food bloggers, I was kind of stress on my contribution for The Alshaya Food Tour. I was the most novice in the whole group. Nevertheless, I am up for the challenge.
Dubai Here I come!!!
My first in-flight lunch on Emirates Boeing 777.
It had been a long long time since I met up with my girl friends. As we grew older, the responsibility and commitment started to increase too, make it harder for us to meet up. Even so, the strong friendship bond still stay with us.
Thanks Melody for arranging the brunch meet up at The Hangar.
The Hangar is a Aussie styled cafe with an industry concept interior design that specialize in coffees, sandwiches and salads. Situated at the far end of Arab Street making it a perfect hang out venue away from all the crowd. A nice cozy cafe to catch up with your friends while enjoying the good coffees and food that are served in The Hangar.
Travelling to Japan had always been on my travel bucket list. Other than experiencing the rich Japan culture and visiting the land of Hello Kitty, I have always wanted to visit Japan for their abundance of gastronomical delights with a boundless variety of regional and seasonal food.
For the month of September, The Soup Spoon launched their Souper Inspiration Japan. Souperchef Anna had come out with 3 different Japan themed soups, “Japanese Style Vegan Sweet Potato Curry”, “Nikujaga Wasabi Beef Stew” and “Salmon Head Touyu Nabe” using the different types of stable or comfort Japan food.
Finally, we had a weekend off for ourselves after all our endless work. I planned a surprise staycation for him at The Puteri Pacific Johor Bahru.
The Puteri Pacific Johor Bahru is conveniently located on heritage row of Jalan Trus, just a few minutes away from City Square Johor Bahru as well as the Jalan Tan Hiok Nee Culture street where you can do your cafe hopping. The Johor Bahru Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) at the causeway to Singapore are also within walking distance.
I booked a 2D1N staycation at their dulex room on the Executive floor with breakfast at Agoda.com for $122.44.
After the short food trail I had previously at Taman Sentosa, I had been looking forward to my next food adventure in Johor Bahru.
Cafes had been sprouting out almost everywhere in Johor over these past few years. Singaporean had also starting to move into Johor to do their cafe hopping.
Thanks to Jia Hui from FaithJoyHope and Hazel from HazelDiary for planning the cafe hopping session.
Most of the cafes are located at.
First Stop : The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen
The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen had recently open for business in May 2015. This is the second establishment from the team of Faculty of Caffeine! The founder created the cafe with the ”Bed and Breakfast” concept for people to enjoy good food and lodge while they are in Johor.
You can easily spot The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen from its white washed walls.
In conjunction of Singapore 50, The Square @ Novotel Clarke Quay is launching a Peranakan themed Buffet Line by Chef Kishen for the month of August.
Every month, The Square will launch a different themed buffet line. For the month of July, it was “Sweet Indulgences” by Chef Sin Siak featuring his cakes and desserts creations.
I am honour to be invited through Open Rice to have the first insight and taste of the upcoming Peranakan Buffet Line as well as the chance to try out the July “Sweet Indulgences”.
What will be the first dish you can think of coming to Peranakan cuisine?
If you are thinking of a place to have your High Tea Session at White Sands Shopping Mall ?
Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe had re open their outlet in the newly renovated White Sands Shopping Mall.
In conjunction to their re- opening, I had listed 5 Must Try for High Tea in Xin Wang Hong Kong Cafe.
Item 1 : Crystal Haw Gar
$4.90 (3 Pieces)
Even though, this Haw Gar is not the best in the market. This is one of my favorite dish coming to dim sum. The skin is too thick and the prawn was fresh and sweet.
The Crystal Haw Gar is also one of the Chef Recommendation in the menu.
