Bangkok Day4 (6Aug12) : Wat In,Pirom Plaza,Wat Tramit

Finally,we reach Wat Intharawihan. The 32-meter standing Buddha is really spectacular. It really worth a visit even if you are not a Buddhist.

After praying,we went to buy ice-cream from the vendor that we saw at the gate of the temple. I ordered coconut ice cream however the uncle gave me mixed flavour. It tasted yummy.

Next up, We continue our journey to Pirom Plaza. This will be thehighlight of theBangkok trip for my hubby. I did lots of research ongun dam sets inBangkok. Pirom Plaza was recommended in most hobby forum. It said to have an under one roof of hobby shops inBangkok. We were looking forward to find some rare sets and lots of shops for us to look around.

Upon reaching, we were disappointed. The shopping mall look so deserted. Most of the shops were closed. We only saw less then 5 shops that were open.

Lucky, we managed to find 3 sets of 00 Raiser Gundam that hubby is looking for. From what i knew from him,he seldom see these three sets he bought. The shops here doesn’t entertain discount as they were selling at 50% as compared to the departmental stores in Bangkok. If you are a Gundam lover, you may wants to drop by to take a look but don’t expected prices to be alot lower then Singapore.

How to get there:Take escalator exit #1 and continue walking straight across the street, past a canal and make a left on Treemit road. Just a short walk down and you will find Wat Traimit along with several smaller temple complexes and a school.

Wat Tramit marked the end of our temple tour for the day. Since we were ahead of time, we decided to head back to the hotel for a little rest and wash up.
We didnt expected that it will be so difficult to hail a taxi in chinatown. We decided to take the tuk-tuk back to hotel. As agreed, the journey back to hotel will be 150BHT. The tuk tuk driver was nice enough to send us back to the hotel without going anywhere else. The ride was thrilling and fun.Advise for people wearing contact lens, please wear shades to protect yours eyes from all the dusts and sands.

Bangkok Day5(7Aug12 ):Back to Singapore

This 5D4N bangkok was going to end within a blink of eyes. We were starting to miss bangkok.

We decided to rest more before we embark on the journey back home.

Attracted by the long queue everyday, we decided to gave the Japanese restaurant a try. Hubby went down to make reservation while i do the final packing and checking. He was rejected as they does not accept any reservation. Therefore, we went straight to the restaurant after checking out and left our luggages at the reception.

The Japanese restaurant,”Sushi Masa” is located at the entrance of Siam Sawana Hotel. The restaurant is kind of small. It was divided into two section, the main hall with the sushi counter and the other part of the restaurant with the preparation counter.

Mainly, they served sushi and sashimi. The choice was quite limited but you were be able to find special sushi like Foie gras sushi. They were selling the sushi by piece,so it does not come in 2 pieces as shown on the menu.

We ordered a few sushi , california roll and unagi rice with 2 cup of refillable cold green tea. They also serve a free side of wasabi cracker and free soup. The wait for the food was around 20 mins.We finished the cracker by the time the food came. When they served up the canifornia roll , i was shocked that it was really huge. I dont really like the canlifornia roll. There too much rice.
Next up , it was our sushi. The tamogo and kani sushi tasted normal . I like the salmon sushi as it super fresh and thick. The unagi was nice and thick too.Last but not least, the unagi don. I love the unagi don. The amount of unagi was generous and each pieces was thick and nice.

Overall, if you were a lover of sashimi and dont mind spending. It worth the wait and try.
After lunch,we decided to shop around the area before heading to the airport. We approach the bellboy to ask whether is there anything where we can shop. He gave us a list of shopping mall and direction. Thanks for being helpful. We told him that he were leaving for airport in half an hour time. He told us there might have traffic jam during the journey. We decided to listen to him and make our way to the airport. The bellboy stopped us and told us he will help us to hail a taxi. He was so thoughtful. He checked with us does we want to go by charted or meter as the price doesn’t different much. but it will be more expensive if there jam. We agreed with the charted service. He went out to hail a taxi for us. Withi

Bangkok Day4 ( 6Aug12 ) :Wat Pho , Wat Suthat~❤

After two days of shopping. It time for some sight-seeing and spiritual journey

We woke up super early in the morning to start off our journey to the various temples. We decided to travel by taxi as we were really tired after all the shopping and walking from the pass two day.

We decided to hail a cab from Asia Hotel. The man at the taxi services told us that if we hail a taxi outside to Wat Pho, it will only cost 100 bht but if via hotel one way it will be 400 bht. Thanks for giving us the information instead of insisting us to travel via hotel.

Finally we reached Wat Pho. Taxi Fare was 70 bht. We went to purchase our admission tickets.
Entrance fee is 100 bht. The main attraction of Wat Pho is the Big Reclining Budda. It really super super grand. We went one round taking pictures. We decided to walk another round. By then, the place were flooded by tourist. At the side of the temple, there a row of 108 bowls. It said to bring good luck to you if you drop coin into each of them. How can we miss that out.
There a small donation box , for you to donate. After that you can take the bowl of coins that provided and start the walk.

After that, we went to explore the rest of the temple.

Overall, it is worth to visit to see the grand reclining budda. But as for temple, we feel it was too commercialise. Advise : Do go early to avoid crowd.

The warmest scene i saw at wat pho

After visiting Wat Pho. We walked toward the Grand Palace. We were trying to find the main entrance. As we were making our way , we saw a group of locals enter through the side doors. We decided to check it out. A man came to approach us. He ask are we locals and commented that my hubby look like thai. He told us that the Grand Palace is closed for prayer for the locals. It will only reopen at 1pm. After that , he asked whether were we students ? we just told him that we were students. He inform us again that the Grand Palace is closed and open at 1pm.After that , he turned his attention to a tourist behind us. We still decide to find the main entrance in cause the man was trying to con us. As we make our way to the entrance. We heard an announcement from Grand Palace on their opening hours and time. They never indicate that they were close.I thinking the man trying to con us to somewhere else but heard we were students and was not interested in us. Soo lucky for us. We finally found the entrance. The guard stopped us as hubby was in his berms. They were very strict in the attire before we enter the palace. We decided to gave it a miss this time round. We will defiantly explore the grand palace on my next visit !!

Location: Maharat Road.

Close to the river (about a half mile south of the Grand Palace),

Old City (Rattanakosin)

Opening Hours: Daily 08:00 – 17:00 (Massage available until 18:00)

Next stop , Wat Suthat.

As plan , we took a taxi over to Wat Suthat. Taxi fare was 100 bht for the street opposite of Grand palace.

Wat Suthat was totally different from Wat Pho. It was alot more peaceful. There not much of tourist, it think just the two of us went we were there. The locals were doing their prayer at the main hall. After praying , we went around taking photos while hubby looking for the shop that sell amulets. After getting the amulets that hubby want to collect.

We decided to set off to our next station, Wat In.

We trying to hail down a taxi but unable to find one. We decided to walk around as we wait for a taxi.

We came across this chinese cafe around the corner. We decided to stop for our lunch. We were lucky that they do have the english verison menu.

The Thai ice tea was super sweet. I love it to max but hubby find it too sweet. He went on with diluting the Thai ice tea with water for both cup.Lucky, it still taste sweet after that. So can i image how sweet is it.

Green curry with Roti

At first , i thought Roti will be bread but it was serve as prata. I love the roti. It super crispy and fluffy. I dont think i able to get this texture anywhere in singapore. The green curry was abit too oily. Overall, It really nice.

When you see Kamphaenghet MRT Station, follow the side of the station and walk all the way straight. You will pass by alot of shops selling water features. Soon, you will reached a premise surrounded by wire fencing. Just enter the gate, you will read Rot Fai.You may wants to follow the crowd from the MRT station. Most people will be heading towards the market.
