[Invited] Asus Nvidia Gamer’s Gathering – Blacklight Retribution Edition

We are glad and honored to be invited to join the Asus Nvidia Gamer’s Gathering organized by Asus, Nvidia and IAHGames. The event was held at Ibis on Bencoolen Hotel, and there were a lot of gamers and tech geeks present to be one of the first few to experience Blacklight Retribution in Singapore. In this event, Asus and Nvidia showcased some of their latest products such as NVIDIA G-Sync, GeForce GTX TITAN Black, NVIDIA SHIELD and GeForce GTX 750 Ti.

First up, IAHGames introduced Blacklight Retribution to the crowd. Blacklight: Retribution is a free-to-play first-person shooter video game. Zombie Studios revealed that it would be developing the sequel to Blacklight: Tango Down with a free-to-play business model.

It is a game that creates an environment with a science fiction setting. Blacklight Retribution has several game modes like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Domination (a ticket type of game), King of the Hill (objective capture) and Kill Confirmed (Similar to Team Deathmatch, but players must collect tokens from their dead opponents for the kill to count for the team.

There are also 3 types of in-game currency. To purchase items, players can use two different currencies: iCredits and Game Points (GP). iCredits can be bought using real money, while Game Points are earned for playing the game. Combat Points (CP) is another currency that can be earned for capturing points, killing enemy players, getting assists, etc. Using all the in-game currency and customization options, players can customize their characters as well as weapons to their gaming style and give them the edge over other players. Weapon depots are a new addition to Blacklight: Retribution. By default, they can be used to buy Health or Ammo Refills, Flamethrowers, Rocket Launchers, and Hardsuits, which are pilot-able mechs equipped with a minigun and a railgun. Thus, giving players another option to customize their characters even in the game itself.

There are 3 interesting features about Blacklight Retribution:

  • Hyper Reality Visor or HRV which allows the player to locate enemies, mines, weapon depots and Hardsuit weak points through walls and other obstacles for a very short amount of time.
  • Weapon customization has much detail and each weapon can have several different receivers, ranging from assault rifles to shotguns. Players can change the muzzle, barrel, magazine, optic sights, stock, camouflage and weapon tag, which is a sort of weapon emblem that hangs off of a lanyard hook. Each section has many different kinds of attachments to put on, and there are also specific attachments for some receivers.
  • Hardsuit is Bipedal, power-armor in Blacklight Retribution that players can purchase from the weapon depot during a match. The Hardsuit is delivered via air drop, and so it cannot be called inside of buildings.

There are also Tactical Gear that players can use to gain advantage over their opponents such as Cloak, Barricade Mk.1, HRV Cloak, etc. Therefore, Blacklight Retribution features a game mechanics that allow flexibility as well as different styles of playing FPS.

Next up, Hugo from Nvidia, introduced GeForce GTX TITAN Black which created a commotion among the gamers present!

GeForce GTX TITAN Black is an all-new GPUs based on its Maxwell architecture today, but its fastest products remain based on its Kepler platform. To build the GeForce GTX Titan Black, Nvidia packs in a few extra CUDA cores—2880 versus 2688 in the original Titan—and gooses its stock clock speeds to 889MHz; 980MHz at boost speed (versus 837- and 876MHz respectively).

Like the original, this new behemoth features a design that evokes the spirit of a supercomputer and the enormous capability within. It would be a apple to the gamer’s eye!

We were also introduced to the Nvidia G-Sync, a technology that delivers the smoothest and fastest gaming experience. It is achieved by synchronizing display refresh rates to the GPU in your GeForce GTX-powered PC, eliminating screen tearing and minimizing display stutter and input lag.

We are also able to see the side-to-side comparison of a game with and without G-sync Technology.

GeForce GTX 750 Ti was also one of the main highlights of the evening. At the other end of the scale from the new ultra-powerful Titan Black, the new GTX 750 and GTX 750 Ti provide some great value gaming. Built using the new ‘Maxwell’ architecture (‘GM107′ core specifically), it is designed to be incredibly efficient.

We also managed to have a sneak peak at SHIELD by Nvidia!

After all the showcase of state of art technology by Asus and Nvidia, it marked the start of the KOTH competition where gamers battled it out to be the king of the hill literally.

We are honored to be able to compete with the pro-gamers that day, only 16 chosen gamers are able to participate in the competition. Thank you IAHGames!

In the end, we lost. Haha! Nevertheless, the game was fun and heart throbbing. It is very fast-paced and can get your adrenaline rushing. Personally, as I am a gamer myself (Vincent), this game features a rich game mechanics where players will be able to customize their weapons to suit their playing styles. It is quite similar to Ghost Recon Online with Crysis settings. All in all, it was a great gaming experience. We would like to thank Asus, Nvidia and IAHGames. We look forward in your next event and also product launch!
